The Immortal Humans: Nearly A Decade In The Making…

Hello there! My name is Jacinta, and I am the creator of The Immortal Humans! I am a biromantic woman from Western Australia; my hobbies include gaming, music, art and [of course] writing. The website you’re on today was created in 2024, but the story behind it goes all the way back to 2015…

I began work on The Immortal Humans as a teenager; it was the first year of high school, and about halfway through the year, we were asked to draw a comic depicting heroes of our own creation in our English class. I was no stranger to creating characters, but this was the first time I’d gathered mine together in a cohesive, tangible work. Although it would be a while before these heroes blossomed into the nine young women I write about today, I had a start. Something to work with. The world of Hybridia was created soon after, and following that, its nations, histories, cultures and communities. Countless notes, sketches, drafts, slideshows and spreadsheets later, I’ve done enough worldbuilding to last a lifetime!

Having recently obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English and Creative Writing, I strongly believe in the power of language as a driving force in our world. The words we use shape all aspects of life, from our everyday experiences all the way to our global stages. Of the many contexts in which language is used, I find that literature has the greatest potential in teaching us the lived experiences of our beautiful world (and all who live in it). Literature not only provides us with reflections of ourselves, but ripples into the lives of others. It is such a beautiful art form, and one of our oldest and most enduring at that!

Through thick and thin, through all of life’s ups and downs, my characters have changed alongside me. With what I have learned not only at university but also throughout my entire life, I hope to give The Immortal Humans the true justice it deserves as a series. Consequently, I feel that it is now the time to set my characters free into the world, where they may hopefully impart on the lives of others.
